S.A.L.V.E. International
was founded in February 2008 by Helen Bolton and Nicola Sansom while they were working as volunteer teachers in Jinja,
eastern Uganda. From day one they found it impossible to ignore the number of children living on the streets. It may
have become part of everyday life in Jinja but it was Helen and Nicola’s passionate belief that something could be done.
So S.A.L.V.E. International was born, giving street children a home, education and hope for the future.
Helen & Nicola wanted their work to go further than just a sponsorship programme.
During their time working in Ugandan schools they came to learn a great deal about the country's education system and
saw first hand the desperate need to improve school facilities for children everywhere. Ugandan schools suffer a Catch-22
crisis, only being able to provide the necessary resources by raising school fees, putting them out of the reach of most pupils.
By providing much needed funding, S.A.L.V.E. could help in ensuring that education would continue to be available to all.
Bringing Mike on board as the Regional Director
for S.A.L.V.E. International, was a turning point for the charity. As a former street child himself and with experience as
a counsellor with various different international NGOs, Mike turned the dream of setting up the organisation into a reality.
He has been the perfect person to run things on the ground for S.A.L.V.E., and provided the ideal link between the children,
schools in Uganda and our sponsors in the U.K.
S.A.L.V.E.
International is now fully operational as a charity and is going from strength to strength. We are confident that with
continued support from sponsors and donors we will continue to grow and change the lives Uganda's street children.
