| Charity Trustee, Nicola Sansom. |
Nicola grew up in England, and was originally from Derbyshire,
where she lived until the age of nine before moving to Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. After finishing her secondary education,
she decided to take a gap year between school and university, to help to widen her experience of the world. She spent her
gap year in Asia, and for the first six months she was based in Malaysia where she volunteered with the organisation, Asia
Community Services. She carried out a variety of different roles in this excellent charity, which worked with both adults
and children by promoting the rights of people with disabilities. This experience cemented her commitment to wanting to work
with charities in the future. She went on to do extensive travel throughout Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India, also doing some
volunteer teaching through HOMSA in a Sri Lankan orphanage. After her gap year, Nicola realised the advantages she had been
given all of her life due to the wide variety of educational opportunities she was offered in the UK, something that she had
always taken for granted. She went on to complete a history degree at the University of Sheffield receiving a 2:1 classification.
Whilst studying, she was involved with many different fundraising events such as a sponsored hitch-hike across Europe (from
Sheffield to Romania), and a half-marathon to help raise funds for various charities. Whilst at university she also continued
her passion for voluntary work by travelling to South America and volunteering with CLEM in Bolivia as a teacher and a builder.
Since completing university Nicola has gone on to complete a Celta TEFL teaching qualification and has worked with EF language
schools across the UK.

Nicola is currently based in Uganda (September 2007 - May 2008) where she lives
and works with locally based NGO, Rejoice Outreach International. She is the Kids Worldwide Volunteer Co-ordinator for the
project, and also holds many other roles in the community where she works as a teacher in a local school, and as an administrator
for R.O.I. Since January, she has also been working on setting up S.A.L.V.E. International, which officially began operating
in February 2008. She is especially excited about the new project as she feels she has learnt a lot from working with a variety
of organisations, both in Uganda and around the world, and she hopes to be able to utilise this knowledge to help take S.A.L.V.E.
International from strength to strength. She is extremely positive about S.A.L.V.E.'s future, and just can't wait to see what
each new day will bring to help it grow and change lives for the better.
