At the beginning of May 2008, S.A.L.V.E. International moved into its first house.
The house is run by Mike, our Regional Director, and it is the first stop for our children as they
are brought off the street. Here they will go through an 'assimilation' period, where each child will get used to their new
life and can start to rebuild their childhood bit by bit.
Such a sudden change in situation can be overwhelming for a child, so the S.A.L.V.E. house is a place
where they can adjust at their own pace, and get used to living under a roof again. Whilst here, they will
re-start their education, attending day school for their first term, and returning to the house and 'Uncle' Mike in the
evenings. In this way, Mike is able to keep a close eye on every child, and can ensure that every one of them is happy and
healthy on the S.A.L.V.E. program. As a trained counsellor, Mike is ideally suited to this task and runs a counselling course
for the children after school each day in order to help them to leave their old lives on the street behind them.
We hope that all of the children who pass through the S.A.L.V.E. house, now, and in the years to
come, will be able to begin afresh and open a new chapter in their lives whilst under this roof. And ultimately, as they
grow and see their futures mapping out ahead of them, we hope that at last they know that whatever happens, they finally
have somewhere that they can always call home.
