May is a Month of Partnerships!
It is important to everyone at S.A.L.V.E. that we are continuously looking for ways to improve our work, especially when working with young people through our Street Outreach and Drop In Centres, as this is often when we first meet children who need our support.
Last month, we were thrilled to launch our new Mobile School. This new programme, designed to increase engagement and the strength of our relationship building with street connected young people, will give our Street Outreach team the opportunity to bring informal education opportunities to children on the streets in Jinja. We’re delighted to have partnered with our friends at Mobile School to make this happen.
Many of the children we work with have not had the opportunity to attend school, or have dropped out soon after starting. Our Mobile School takes education to them, delivering tailored sessions and activities that help our social workers to form strong, trusting relationships with these young people. This will be the start of a process to support these children to leave the street, return home to their families and to education.
Thanks to our wonderful partnership with Mobile School and support from their trainers, our School enjoyed it’s first street session after a week-long training programme for our Street Outreach team. We are pleased to report that all members of the team passed the training, receiving certificates of completion, as well as Mobile School driving licences!
The Mobile School will now become a key part of our Street Outreach programme, with regular sessions held at different locations throughout Jinja. We are excited to see how this new programme positively impacts our street work in 2025.
