Handmade Cards

These beautiful greetings cards are hand-crafted by women from the poor sugarcane-farming village of Kakira. Launched in November 2011 and recently granted three more years of funding as a result of its success, S.A.L.V.E.’s recycled paper-making project is educating and generating income for these women that were earning an average of just £8 a month when they joined. Some of the women had previously been entirely illiterate and relied on prostitution to support themselves, but now thanks to the work of our fantastic Community Social Worker Agnes, they are learning basic numeracy and literacy skills whilst maintaining a real sense of dignity.
