Skilling for the Future – We’re Already Seeing an Impact!
Street connected children are often judged before they’re even seen or heard. Around the world, these young people face deep stigma, labelled as troublemakers or criminals, rather than seen for who they truly are: resilient, resourceful and full of potential.
At S.A.L.V.E. International, we believe that to truly create a world with ‘No Street Called Home’, we must not only support children to leave the streets, but we must also change how the world sees them. We need to rewrite the narrative. That is why programmes like our tailoring training are so powerful.
Graduates from our tailoring programme show that, with the right support, street connected young people can achieve anything!
After completing our vocational training course, we provide a comprehensive start-up package for graduates who have been successfully resettled. This enables them to continue practicing their skills, seek employment or even start their own business.
One of our programme participants, Joshua*, told us about the impact his graduation has already had: “I am already making a profit and my business is growing quickly. I am now known as the ‘fashionista’ of the village. I am able to support myself and help my mum out with my brothers’ school fees.”
Participation in the programme significantly reduces the likelihood of relapse from our Drug Rehabilitation Centre, and we have seen positive improvements in community attitudes towards street connected young people. The programme teaches practical skills, builds confidence and helps young people to reintegrate into their communities with pride. Returning home with the talent and ambition to achieve something means that they are seen, heard and supported to fulfil their potential.
Changing perceptions is just as important as changing circumstances.
Thanks to Help Change Lives for supporting our pilot programme. We’re thrilled that our success means we are able to support a new cohort of tailors throughout 2025!
Become a Regular Giver
One of the most powerful ways you can support our work is by setting up a regular donation.
Unrestricted, consistent funding gives us the flexibility to respond to urgent needs, plan for the long term and keep vital programmes running, even when times are tough. Unlike project-specific grants, regular donations allow us to invest where the need is greatest, whether that’s providing emergency care, covering rising food costs or reacting to the impact of global events.
By becoming a regular giver, you’re not just donating – you’re becoming part of a community that believes every child deserves safety, support and opportunity.
Even small monthly gifts can have a big impact. For example:
– £6 a month could provide a week of meals to two children who access our Drop In Centre
– £10 a month could provide a night of safe accommodation for a child at our Halfway Home
– £25 a month could support a care giver to enrol in our specialist business development programme
– £50 a month could help to resettle a child with their family, and follow up with them for the first twelve months
Set up your regular donation today and be part of lasting change.
